About Us
I, Shelley, put this site together with my husband Mark as we wanted
to help our own horses to be as natural as possible and had trouble
finding anything in the UK to help us. Most of the help we found
was on American websites, so we decided to put our own website together
to try to help others and ourselves in our natural journey's.
So, let me tell you a little about our horses.
 |
Firstly there's Tara. She's a dark brown/black gypsy cob (Irish
Cob x Welsh Cob with a sprinkling of Shire). She's 15hh
and was born in 1994. She was brought up by a tinker and was
mostly driven and is now my main Parelli partner. She has
taught me so much about Horsemanship and we've grown a lot
together since we bought her in 2000, I love her to bits.
I am studying Parelli Level 3 with her at the moment. |

Then there's Fortune, Tara's sister, they have the same
black Welsh Cob sire but Fortune's dam was a dark chestnut
TB. She is 15.2hh, bright chestnut with flaxen mane and tail
and was born the same year as Tara. They have lived most of
their lives together. We've had Fortune since 2002 but due to
an unfortunate accident before we got her she is now only
a companion and is not ridden. She has got a wonderful spirit
and is highly intelligent and it was because of her accident
that we became interested in the barefoot trim. |

Our third horse is Holly who is 16.2hh and a Shire x TB,
bright bay with white socks who was born in 1999. We believe
she was bred for three day eventing but suffered a fractured
pelvis at a very young age and found herself on the meat wagon.
Luckily for her the meat man thought her too young and pretty
to be sold for meat and put her up for sale again. The next
owner saved her but didn't do much else with her and she went
for about 3 years doing not much of anything, the livery yard
people taking her into their hearts and teaching her when
they could. She was put up for sale again as the owner realised
she needed someone who would teach her and ride her and that's
when we came into her life. She came to us in 2003 and unfortunately
suffered with Chronic Grass Sickness the following year but has fully recovered. She
is a true survivor and is doing very well in her education
with us. She is Mark's main horse and he is studying Parelli Level 2 with her. |

Forth is Storm. He was born in 2003
and is a fully registered grey Shire. He came to us as a 10
month old colt in 2004 and has been growing big and strong
since being here. His dam and sire
were about 17.3hh and pure white so he's going to be a very
big bright boy and we're giving him plenty of time to grow
and learn. He was gelded in 2004 and is a happy member of
our herd. In March 2005 he suffered a broken pedal bone in his front right foot but fully recovered. In the Summer of 2006 he was backed by me and is slowly being brought on with his ridden work by both Mark and myself. We also started him in harness in 2007 and both ridden and driven work will be a slow ongoing process done at the rate Stormy can handle as he's a slow growing breed so we'll just take the time it takes to do it well. Pictures of his progress and others can be seen on our photo galleries which is regularly updated, so keep an eye on those. |

And this is my new horse SOLLY (Summer Solstice). He is a 16hh TB x Highland and was born in 1997. He is a very intelligent boy with strong opinions and he is doing really well with Parelli and I'm studying Level 2 with him at the moment. I hope to get my Level 3 with him and am thinking about doing some dressage with him too. He's a fun horse who has a good 'go' button! He'd be good at anything really and I enjoy taking him places for fun days and also long hacks in the countryside. |
We are very lucky to have our horses on 50 acres of rough hill grazing which has natural shelter and water. They are all barefoot and we rug in Winter only when it is severe. They get wormed with a tapewormer in Spring and Autumn but during
the warmer months we worm count and worm with Verm-X, a natural herbal
wormer.
All our horses are going through the Parelli programmes L1-L3 with Mark and
I and we are both learning the system, me on Level 3, Mark on Level 2, and
we both ride in natural rope hackamores with Tara doing more and more refinement with a sweet iron french link bitted bridle. We ride bareback as often as possible.
We trim the horses
feet ourselves, luckily Tara and Holly partly self-trim with the riding out
they do all Spring, Summer and Autumn.
Our horses all get hay Winter and varying amounts of alfalfa, speedi-beet and pony nuts. Stormy, Solly and Holly get medium feeds in Winter with Tara and Fortune a very maintenance amount. They all get less during good weather but we feed a little to maintain gut health. They all do very well on the mixed grazing
they have in their fields.
Stormy is much happier now he has another gelding to play with and we're very happy with the five together, a real happy herd.
